Why females are a different species of nerd.
After much researching I have come to the conclusion that female and male nerds are indeed different species. Nought against either sex but there are distinct differences in how they approach nerdiness:
Of course, the internet as usual makes silly little nerdish statements. First of all there was this story.
I’m techo geeking library nerd who LOVES fashion. Yet there is no subspecies of female nerd; no, we are simply the nerdette. Whats that? ‘ frumpy and usually overshadowed by her male nerd counterparts.’ My clothes are only frumpy because they don’t make flattering, v neck cuts on unisex shirts and boobs otherwise get in the way of a unisex cut.
This one was more flattering
http://www.computerworld.com/blogs/node/1575 It didn’t mention how hot we can look while out geeking the mail nerd subspecies.
Its either one subcategory or another LOL. With my interests, I fit into so many categories that both sexes run away from me. Oh, you love opera and comics? No talk to you!
how the feisty feminine is detrimental as a role model
Celluloid super heroes defined a heroine as incorporating the following characteristics; full lips, good looks, top heaviness, slender arms, subtle powers and tight clothing. Now, male characters have similar prejudices in terms of looks, top heaviness and having the square jaw.
Actually, its not so much the Super Heroines themselves that are the problem; my wonder woman cosplay outfit would be nothing without the flashing of skin
Its more so the Rose Tylers and Lois Lanes.
Now they are great Role Models in their own way, yet do more damage to feminism than help the cause. They get some success from barging ahead despite all dangers, ultimately needing a Doctor, or Hero, to eventually save them.
How many times did Rose nearly die? How many times has Lois been saved from troubles she got her own tiny arse into? Its better than the helpless blonde bombshell they also regurgitate but c’mon there has to be more than TWO stereotypes?
Thats why I love Manga. Female Superheroes that can be doofus~y, strong and adorable at the same time.
What happens in the second Tsubasa Chronicle? :cries:
Feminism and nerdism
I didn’t know how feminist I was until I outed myself as a nerd. Of course, I don’t remember doing so. I was outside because my fever was raging, and it was cold there. Started chatting with one of my landlords and eventually decided ‘Stuff it, not going to be embarrassed for liking guy stuff’.
Of course, two hours later my fever broke and I was raving to Kyo about my Chicken army I was going to raise, so I may not have been of the soundest mind.
Its simple – females like more than my little pony and if your curvy, you need that bloody V neck cut! Though reading Howard the duck – maybe that chicken army ain’t such a crazy idea!
10 reasons being a female nerd is alienating:
- You know how to, like, articulate yourself without, you know, butchering the English language
- Your idea of a hot outfit is buying some short shorts and dressing up as wonder women
- The best night you’ve had in ages was one spent reading old superman comics, and wikipedia’ing all the many, many confusing storylines
- The ‘Kyo’ beanie isn’t as cute when they know where it came from
- Your sexuality comes into question despite naming your CAT after a male character
- you can’t really talk to guy mates about the lack of strong females that don’t demean women in some way
- The guys your chatting to look at you weird when you out-tech them.
- You care more about the composer of the film than who was hotter out of Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom.
- You cant wear skirts because your legs recieve comments about their paleness.
- Your blog has something other than drunken nights of sex and dancing.
